For me, this figure hit hard.
Having spent ten years in the fire service, I know the weight of that helmet. I know the feeling of stepping into a building wearing breathing apparatus, heart racing, and hearing the words “person reported” in your ear. It’s not fear exactly—it’s a flutter. A readiness. A mix of adrenaline, responsibility, and hope.
